LIFE IS TOO SHORT. MAKE FUN OF IT!
Over 200 street artists from around the world donated their work to the London based ‘Cancer Sell’ exhibition. The exhibition was put together by street artist Kelly Grimble of Beautifully Urban to raise funds for Cancer Research and Florence Nightingale Hospice.
The exhibition is of particular personal significance for Kelly as her mother died from breast cancer in 2007, ‘I wanted to give something back, to thank the incredible people that looked after my mum, as well as raise funds for research into a disease that affects absolutely everyone,’ says Kelly. ‘The street artist community is a close knit one and I have been overwhelmed by the phenomenal response, generosity and kindness of the artists.’
The exhibition showcased work from new street artists, many exhibiting for the first time, alongside established names. As well as spray paint based art, artists contributed photography, sculpture and vinyl for free.
The Cancer Sell event was held at 98 Leonard Street on 31st July 2008. All donations were displayed in a gallery environment with a twist. There was something for everyone at the event to enjoy. For images relating to the event please visit www.flickr.com/groups/cancersell
Work that remiains unsold is now displayed in the Cancer Sell bigcartel shop. All proceeds from artwork purhased will be donated to both The Florence Nightingale Hospice and Cancer Research in a 50/50 split.
